Ileitis

Porcine proliferative enteropathy, also known as PPE or ileitis, is a common bacterial illness that is found on most pig farms in the United States. Ileitis is an enteric — or intestinal — disease that forms lesions within the small intestine of the pig, particularly within the ileum. Ileitis can affect weight gain in pigs of all ages, with the biggest impact on late nursery through finishing. Ileitis-affected pigs cost the industry more than $100 million annually.
